The Åland Islands

Åland is a demilitarised, Swedish-speaking autonomous region of Finland. Here are some interesting tidbits about Åland:

  • Åland has its own parliament (Ålands lagting) and government (Ålands landskapsregering)
  • Mariehamn – the one and only town –  is the the ‘capital’ of Åland.
  • Swedish is the only official language in Åland.
  • Åland has its own coat of arms, flag, anthem, stamps, license plates, and top level domain (.ax).

Wreck Diving in Åland
