On 10 May the Local Government decided to give one bottle of the world’s oldest Veuve Clicquot champagne to Veuve Clicquot. Conditions apply! Furthermore, the bottle previously deposited until the end of this year in the care of Veuve Clicquot has gotten an extended deadline. A non-official translation follows below:

Transfer of one champagne bottle to Veuve Clicquot

The Government of Åland has since the summer of 2010 developed an extensive cooperation with the champagne house Veuve Clicquot. The cooperation has consisted among other things of expert support and advice in different situations related to the handling of the champagne salvaged from the shipwreck M1 Fö 403.3. Veuve Clicquot has assisted the government in marketing and commersialisation of the champagne finding. They (Veuve Clicquot) will also actively participate in the arrangement surrounding this year’s champagne auction of two champagne bottles.Within the framework for the ongoing cooperation with the champagne house Veuve Clicquot the government has decided to transfer one Veuve Clicquot champagne bottle to the company. The transfer is made provided that an agreement of cooperation between the local government and Veuve Clicquot is reached. The bottle and its contents shall be used for research purposes. It may not – without explicit permission of the local government – be used for other purposes.

Deposit of champagne bottle

On 9.12.2010 the Government of Åland decided to deposit one bottle (reg. A30) with Veuve Clicquot during the period 9.12.2010-31.12.2011.
The requirements for the deposit are that:
- Åland is clearly marketed and that versatile information about and its’ special status and history as well as the history of the shipwreck is prominently displayed as part of the exhibit.
- Veuve Clicquot is responsible and shall bear all costs associated with packaging, transporting, insurance or bank deposit corresponding to 100.000 € and all additional costs accrued in association with the deposit. The Government of Åland decided to extend the deposit of the champagne bottle up until 31.12.2040.
